Side of the Law
What can and can’t a
14- or 15-year-old do?
When it comes to child labor,
Vermont state government is
very particular about protecting
teens from potential burn-out
and harm in the workforce.
During the summer, if you are
14 or 15 years old, you can
work between 7 a.m. and 9
p.m., up to eight hours a day,
40-hours a week, with at least
one day off. When you head
back to school, expect to cut
back to no more than three
hours per day and 18 hours
a week. To the right are tips
for what you can and can’t
do, according to The State of
Vermont’s Child Labor Laws:
